How to Help Save The WTA

WTA’s Board is taking public comment right now on fare increases and ending WWU’s universal bus pass. Here’s how you can speak up.

Step 1: Submit Your Comment to WTA

The fastest way to help is to use WTA’s official comment form. Every message is logged and shared with the WTA Board before they vote on fare increases and the end of WWU’s student bus pass.

What to say in your comment

Bellow are two options on what to say in your comment.

Option 1: Write Your Own Comment

Use WTA’s official public comment form and share your own story in your own words. Every message is logged and sent to the WTA Board before they vote.

What to say in your comment?

  • Say you oppose doubling base bus fares to $2 and raising paratransit fares to $3.

  • Say you oppose ending WWU’s universal student bus pass and want WTA and WWU to negotiate a new agreement.

  • Explain how these changes would affect you. For example getting to class, work, medical appointments, or caring for family.

  • Emphasize that the plan hurts low income riders, seniors, and disabled riders and undercuts local climate goals.

Option 2: Use Our Ready to Send Comment

Step 2: Contact your local leaders

Local elected officials have real power to shape what happens next. Email or call your city council, mayor, and Whatcom County Council members and ask them to oppose the fare increase and the end of WWU’s student bus pass. Tell them how you use the bus, how these changes would hurt you and your community, and ask them to publicly push WTA to keep transit affordable for everyone.
